15-year-old Rebecca Fabunmi was discovered only a few months ago by her mother agency, Few Models, through their scouting competition: Few’s Next Face. A boutique modeling agency owned by former Nigerian model, Bolajo Fawehmi, Few Models is becoming increasingly known for its ability to place its models in internationally renowned agencies such as IMG Models, used by the likes of supermodel Gisele Bündchen and Victoria’s Secret Angel, Miranda Kerr. Rebecca, like 30 other girls who contested for Few’s Next Face, was just about every other girl in Lagos’ 18 million population before being discovered by the agency.
What is most interesting is the fact that during the Few’s Next Face competition, IMG’s Luis Domingo maintained that Rebecca was a gem waiting to be discovered even though she needed to polish her runway walk and emerged first runner-up in the competition.
Fast forward to the just concluded Lagos Fashion and Design Week, of the 1,101 looks, 54 shows and 80 models, Rebecca walked a phenomenal 15 shows, opening three of the strongest shows including Lisa Folawiyo, Rich Mnisi, and Tsemaye Binitie. However, this is not what made her stand out. It was the strength of her walk, the energetic boyishness of her gait that made her stand out in a sea of equally breathtaking models. She brought a refreshing effervescence to walking down the runway and because of this she is without a doubt, the model we can’t stop talking about.
